Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid??

COLOR OF THE YEAR: RADIANT ORCHID??

Recently, Pantone (http://www.pantone.com/pages/index.aspx?pg=21129) did what it does best and finally released the color of the year for 2014 which happens to be "radiant orchid". One might ask, 'What even is radiant orchid'? Well, we're kind of all wondering that same thing.  It has come to our attention that radiant orchid is just a fancy name for a bright, electric plum mixed with purple. Apparently, this color will be seen all throughout fashion shows and even out on the streets of your very own city. In the past, some of the colors have been even more obnoxious and overly romanticized: tangerine tango, emerald, honeysuckle and much, much more.
Once you get past the overly intoxicating ridiculous names and really see what the color actually is, it's not so bad. In fact, this year's color is not difficult to incorporate into everyday affairs such as fashion and makeup. In the past, it would be almost impossible to incorporate colors such as "tangerine tango" into a makeup look without making yourself look like a dead corpse. The past colors would only look decent on about 0.2% of the population. This year's color is actually not bad after all. If you're feeling daring and sassy: go all out. Apply soft purple shades to the lid and intensify the look with a darker purplish brown shade in the crease. Or, if you're just looking for a slight pop of your wild side, smudge this shade across your lower lash line. Be careful though - a little too much could in fact make you look ill. For a night out: apply an electric purple shade to your lips like model #4 in the picture below.
If you don't think you're cut out for colorful makeup, incorporate this color into your outfits. Do not even think about trying to pair orchid makeup with orchid outfits...that is a definite no! Instead, go for a bronzed neutral look to compliment the purple.

How to: Turn a Lipstick into a Lip Stain

  1. Exfoliate & Hydrate: This step is crucial to keep your lips from looking dry and flaky. It will also prevent the lipstick from settling into the cracks in your lips.
  2. Conceal: Use your favorite concealer to create a base for the lip color. It may seem odd at first but it will ensure that the color will be more vibrant. We recommend MAC Pro-Longwear Concealer and NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer.
  3. Apply: A lip brush will make the application of your lipstick a lot easier and the end result will look cleaner.
  4. Blot: Using a kleenex or tissue, blot the color off of your lips. This will leave the lips stained and the color will remain for most of the day.
  5. Clean up: Taking your concealer again, clean up the edges of your lips to perfect your flawless lip stain.

We hope this post helps you lengthen the wear of your lip colors! Please comment, +1, and follow for more posts on our blog!! <3

Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation Review!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage SPF 15 Review!

This foundation is a liquid consistency infused with amazonian clay. It provides long wearing coverage along with SPF to protect your skin from harmful UVA rays throughout the day. It is available at stores like Sephora.

Pros:
This foundation is super long wearing. It says in the name that it wears 12 hours and it definitely does. The blendability that this foundation possesses is incredible. You can apply it with your fingers or a brush for full coverage or with a damp beauty blender for more sheer coverage. Either way it conceals and evens out the skin beautifully! We recommended it to one of our friends and she cannot stop talking about how many people complimented her makeup. Although you can get pretty full coverage from this foundation, it still somehow manages to feel light and look super natural. This foundation comes in 16 different shades and has different undertone options. Therefore, you can say goodbye to carrot face!! (no orangey hues and will match you perfectly). To top it all off, it even has SPF 15 to protect your skin. You may not want to wear this in pictures because you may get washed out with flash! This foundation comes with a lot of product and will last you awhile because you don't need much of it to achieve flawless skin. All in all, we really love this foundation!

Cons:
The only flaw this foundation contains is the price. It is a high-end foundation and can be found at Ulta or Sephora for a whopping price of $38. But hey, its totally worth it.

We absolutely love this foundation! It’s our go-to foundation whenever we need fuller coverage. It is definitely worth the $38… we highly recommend it and will be repurchasing it!

Our Winter Beauty Essentials!!!

Winter Beauty Essentials

  1. Dark lips
Chances are you are probably pretty pale right now because its the middle of winter. A dark lip will contrast against your skin and has a gorgeous look. It also gets you in some holiday spirit:) We can suggest MAC’s Russian Red, Diva, or Rebel.

   2. Frosty Eyeshadows
These shadows create the illusion of bigger, brighter eyes because of the luminosity they have. Frosty colors are also light enough to look gorgeous on any skin tone. If you are asking yourself now what are “frosty” shades, such colors include: silver, light, pale blue, and gray. We suggest L’Oreal Color infallible Eyeshadows in the colors “Time Resist White” and “Flashback Silver”

  3.  Rosy Cheeks
Dem rosy cheeks add a pop of color and give you a youthful glow! This makes you look as if you just came inside after playing out in the snow for hours (and thats a look you want:)) We recommend blushes such as: “Benetint” from Benefit and Maybelline’s Dream Bouncy Blush in “Hot Tamale”.

 4. Highlighted Cheekbones
A bright, glowy face is always in style however it is especially so in the winter season! Illuminating your cheekbones enhances their beauty and adds a lift to your face, again adding to your glow! Adding a hint of highlight to your cupids bow (your upper lip peak) will complete the look! We recommend: Benefit’s High Beam or Watt’s Up and MAC’s Mineralize Skin Finish in “Soft and Gentle”images from: iknowallthewords.com, macaronsandmischief.com

Dupe Snoop #1: MAC to ELF

DUPE SNOOP #1
MAC eyeshadow in “All that Glitters” vs. Elf Baked Eyeshadow in “Toasted”

Today we are going to be duping (lol is that even a word?) a very popular and loved eyeshadow, MAC’s “All that Glitters” eyeshadow by comparing it to ELF’s baked eyeshadow in “Toasted”.

“All that Glitters” is one of MAC’s most popular eyeshadows and the going rate for it is $15.00.  This product has a beautiful sheen to it that can be used as an all over the eye shadow or one to add a pop of shimmer and gleam. This is because it is considered a “veluxe pearl” shadow at MAC. The color itself is a shimmery neutral beige with hints of copper and gold and is super blendable.  Due to its light, shimmery quality, the eyeshadow itself is not highly pigmented. The shadow is soft and light, making it easy to apply. It is great for beginners because of its neutral tones and effortless application.

Now its time for the comparison! Elf has a few shades in baked eyeshadows, including the color “Toasted.” Now the eyeshadows may not appear the same at first glance, but have extremely similar properties and give the same look once applied! They both have light shimmery pigmentation and have noticeable hints of copper and gold. MAC’s eyeshadow may be a bit more easy to work with because it isn’t a baked shadow. The only major difference here is the price! Elf’s baked shadow is $3! If you are familiar with subtraction that is a $12 difference!! Talk about money in the bank!
